5 Ways to Prevent Virus or Malicious attacks on your website

5 Ways to Prevent Virus or Malicious attacks on your website

How to Prevent Virus attacks on your website

Imagine trying to access your website and suddenly discover that your website is either not opening or it’s being redirected to another page that looks very suspicious.

Many things can cause this, but one on top of the list is Virus Attack. And that is the one I want to address here.

This can even result in a total hack of your website and Google frowning at your website or marking it as an unsafe site.

I am sure you wouldn’t want such to happen.

To ensure that such doesn’t happen to your website, these actions below can help you ensure that your website is clean always.

This guide is specific to websites built with WordPress.

1. Always update all your themes and plugins

Once you receive a notification of a new confirmed update that has been released, ensure you update that theme or plugin as this will reduce any security breach or infiltration of malicious code or file.
This can be done manually from your WordPress dashboard or site management tools.

2.Ensure you are using the latest version of WordPress

Yes, WordPress releases different versions, and they will always notify you when they do and request that you update your website.
Please ensure you make a backup of your website before you do any update just in case anything go wrong.

3. Install a security plugin on your website.

There are many security plugins that can greatly secure your website from attacks. The one I have used and always use is called Wordfence. It does a very good job of preventing spam and malicious attacks on your website. Their free version does a pretty good job.

4. Perform a regular scan of your website from your Cpanel.

Your Cpanel has an inbuilt Virus Scanner, it will give you the option to scan various aspects of your website and if it discovers any malicious file or code you do not understand or not sure how it came in, please take action in removing such file, especially PHP files. (If you are not sure of what action to take please consult a professional to assist you)

5. Lastly, performing regular scanning of your computer or other devices will also help you keep your hosting safe

This is because some of the attacks can go through your device to the hosting space. The reason why you need to have a working antivirus.

Taking these five steps regularly will keep your website safe and sane and you also friendly with Google as they frown at websites that are not clean.

If you are not the so techy type or you are too busy to always check all these, then take up a Website Maintenance plan for yourself from an expert.

Part of what the plan includes is checking and ensuring that your website is safe and effective.

Why a Business Email Address is Good for your Business and How to Get One

Why a Business Email Address is Good for your Business and How to Get One

Why a Business Email Address is Good for your Business and How to Get One

If you are a business owner and you normally send emails to prospects, customers, etc. It is good for you to use a business email instead of a personal email.

There are many reasons for that and we will look at them while answering the following questions.
What’s the difference between a business email address and a personal one?
Why should I have a business email address?
How do I get a business email address?

1. What’s the difference between a business email address and a personal one?

Imagine you are looking for someone to do a service for you say, an accounting service.
You posted a request on your favorite social media platform or a newspaper looking for someone, and days after, you checked your email, and you got two responses.
The first thing you notice is the applicants’ email addresses. One seems way more trustworthy than the other, so you only reply to that address. But which one was it?
Let’s find out.
Which email seems more trustworthy and personal?
Emma’s email address seems like it’s coming from a real business.
John’s address, meanwhile, seems like it’s for his personal email, which could raise doubts about his professionalism.
So a  business email address is one that’s solely dedicated to business communication and ends in a company’s domain name (@accountingservices.com).

2. Why should I have a business email address?

Having a business email address may seem like it doesn’t really matter, but it can have a huge effect on your business because some other business owners will not feel comfortable doing business with you using your personal email address.
For example, it helps boost your company’s credibility by making your email communications look professional and legitimate.
A business email address also makes your company’s emails more consistent.
Also, if you have a team and every single one of your team uses the same business domain in their email addresses, it’s clear that you’re all on the same, unified team.
The connection between your business email address and your website domain can raise brand awareness, too.
Every time you and your team members email someone, your address will remind them of the company you represent.

3. How do I get a business email address?

I know you may be thinking, I am not a big company, so I cannot get a business email address.
You don’t need to be a big company with multiple employees or teams to get a business email address.
It’s easy and affordable for businesses of all sizes.
Even if you are the only employee of your business, you can create multiple email addresses that will handle different business communications:
With this, when you send an email using any of these emails, you will appear professional in the eyes of your target audience.
As your company grows, you can easily add email addresses for new employees. Or, if an employee leaves, you can still receive messages sent to their business email address.
You may be asking now.
What if you’ve been using a personal email address and it’s well known to your customers? It’s still a good idea to switch to a business address.
You can automatically forward messages to your new business address.
So how do you get started?
First, you need to purchase a domain name, i.e the address of your website if you don’t have any yet.
Even if you are not ready to build a website yet, you can still be using the business email attached to your domain.
You can get a domain from Namecheap, or Upperlink, or WHogohost.
In most cases, you may need also to purchase a hosting space to have an email account created for your domain.
If you have a domain already and want to know how to create an email from your Cpanel, you can watch this video where I showed a step by step guide on how to do it.
It will walk you through on how to create your email address, access it, customize it, and even redirect your personal email to the business owner.
If you need professional help as well, feel free to reach out to me.
So, go ahead, get a professional email address for your business, and start operating professionally.
To your success.
Should I build my website from scratch or use WordPress?

Should I build my website from scratch or use WordPress?

This is a question most startups or business owners are faced with.

Let me tell you a story to answer that question.

Years back, a friend wanted to launch a web platform and reached out to a developer to build the platform.

After paying for the project, six months of waiting, nothing came out of it.

As the WordPress king that we are, she reached out and told us about it.

I told her we can achieve everything she is looking for with WordPress.

Yes, just say your idea, and we will WordPress it

She agreed, and we mapped out the strategies and got to work, less than a month, the platform was ready, she used the same platform to apply for a grant competition, and she came out No.1 and won the top prize.

There is no glory in spending so much in the name of building a tech platform from scratch.

Use available tools and solutions and start growing your business till you get to a point where you necessarily need that custom-built platform.

Waiting to build your platform from scratch will cost you the money you should use to grow the business and waste your time when you can use WordPress and a combination of some plugins to achieve your goals at a lesser cost and shorter time.

3 Powerful Ways Your Customers Decide Who To Buy From

3 Powerful Ways Your Customers Decide Who To Buy From

How your customers decide who to buy from.

How did you decide who to buy from when you made your last purchase?

You know that one of the questions we always ask is, who do I buy from?

The reason why we ask this question is that we don’t want to be scammed or cheated and we don’t want to make mistakes.

Whether it’s a product or service, we do the same thing.

We want to make a good or informed buying decision.

Do you know your prospective buyers think the same way when considering buying what you are offering?

HOW YOUR CUSTOMERS DECIDE WHO TO BUY FROM

There are 3 actions they will take before they will decide to buy either from you or from your competitors.

Today I want to share with you those 3 actions.

1. They will ask their friends

Our friends won’t tell us lies or deceive us. So we believe that whoever they recommend to us is both good and trustworthy. We all do it and your customers to be will do it.

They will ask their friends if they know someone that does this or sells that.

Even Facebook has something called Recommendations, where your Facebook friends can recommend who they know. The question is, will you be the person they will recommend?

I will show you how to be that person.

2. They will ask their networks.

You see, every one of us belong to a group or network, It can be a WhatsApp group, Telegram group, a Facebook group, etc.

If you are someone that offers great value in that group you belong to, whenever a member is looking for a reliable or trusted person to do business with, those in that network you belong to will definitely recommend you because they may have received value based on the content or the things that you have shared in that group. That’s why you need to become valuable in any group that you belong to.

 3. They will search the web

If they didn’t use any of the two options above, the next option is to go online to search for who to buy from.

Will, you be found online? If you are found, are you positioned to be the one they will buy from?

When they find you, the first factor they will consider is what others have said about you.

That is why social proofs or testimonials are a must-have if you have a presence online. You will not be there to convince them, what others said doing business with you will inform their buying decision.

Did you see how all these ties together?

How will you position yourself to be the one they will decide to buy from?

There is something you must do.

In my next post, I will show you how to do that. Watch out for it.
